The 3rd part focuses on the Tyco US-1 trucking portion of the layout. I would’ve taped it on the same day as the last 2, but i was having problems with that part then so i went back, cleaned the track and trucks, and got it running good (allthough the’re were still some problems, a couple of which i left in the video). I really wish they’d bring back this line of slot cars, or make a new version. I got a US-1 set in the early 80’s for Christmas (i don’t remember the name but it had 7 action stations and the half curve tracks), and my brother got one a few years later (the Motor City Trucking set). A couple years ago i got all of the stuff me and my brother had back then, and more by constantly prowling Ebay. At the end of the video are 2 of my “customs”. A flatbed truck i made from a junk dump truck shell (it’s load is one of the plastic crawler tractors Tyco used on their skid flatcars), and a caboose move (the real caboose the museum has was moved the same way). Turns out the US-1 trailer bogies snap perfectly into the truck mounting holes on the older (1980’s) Bachman cabooses. Then i made a custom hitch for it, and to my suprise it worked perfectly. I made an oversize load sign for the front of the semi but i forgot to put it on here.

My first upload of a video that i recorded with my VHS camcorder. This is a combined HO and N scale Model Train, and Tyco US-1 trucking slot car layout i set up in the restored 1911 Santa Fe depot at Osage City, during the town’s “Christmas opener” held on Nov. 29th. I kept the layout up until after Christmas with the hope of opening it to the public again, but i didn’t get a chance to. But i did make a couple of trips to document the layout with my camcorder and camera. As for the details; The layout consisted of 3 HO scale loops, 2 represented a dual main line and the other a branch. Plus a small oval of N scale. And of course theUS-1 track. The branch line crossed over the mains at the mountain (made out of extruded foam, foam sealant, and spackling,then crossed back over the outside main on a bridge and descended to a grade crossing with the inside main. At this crossing i set up a working “automatic interlocking” with a circuit i designed using 4 relays and 2 Circuitron BD-1 opto detectors.. The signals (hard to see in the video) displayed red (and the signal in advance yellow) until a train entered the block. The first train to arrive would get a clear, and the other a red and stop automaticaly, then get a green and proceed after the other cleared. When it worked it was great, however the detectors were pretty touchy, and as a result it didn’t work right most of the time (including during filming). The US-1 track crossed the branch on a bridge and a grade crossing
